I've got good news and bad news to reveal...
The bad news is a growing number of software products like Norton 2004 are secretly installing web site blocking censorship technology to block your Web site from being displayed.
If your Web sales are gradually declining (and you don't know why), the good news is I'll reveal what's happening (along with how to fight back) below.
Web Site blocking censorship
It's one thing to block popups or warn about inappropriate content... but this goes way too far... especially since Norton's customers have no idea what's going on (the optional filter is installed "ON" by default from what I understand).
In simple speak, the software uses its own blacklist and scans your Web pages. If a graphic is too large or the content matches a list of over 200 poison words in the software's blacklist, your visitors can't see your page as designed... instead, Norton "whites out" the content -- and does so without explanation.
If you've ever received emails like, "your Web pages look messed up" or "I tried to order from your site but I couldn't find the link", you're not crazy... far from it. When the content on your site matches what Norton deems "too commercial", it physically defaces your Web page... making it virtually unreadable.
But don't fret. The really good news is you can zap the problem away in mere moments.
John Saya to the rescue
I asked John Saya of the CGIConnection to work his magic and create cgi script to scan my Web site, flag the words found on the latest Norton blacklist, and bypass the problems (on the fly).
If you maintain just a few Web pages, there's no need to get this software. It's not cheap (unless you're already a subscriber of his all-you-can-download software co-op).
But, if you've got dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of Web pages and you're seeing your visitor stats increasing (but your sales are slipping), John's Site Block Zapper is a must-have tool that you should use to scan every new Web page you create.
When I use John Saya's Site Block Zapper, it scans my entire Web site (over 25,000 Web pages) and reveals content, graphics, and links found in Norton 2004's blacklist...
... And fixes the problem on the fly. Just hit the "Save" button and problem solved instantly!
Is your Web site being blacklisted?
When your Web site the 250+ words on Norton's blacklist, visitors to your site will not get to see your site as you designed it. Instead, your Web page displays odd white boxes in lieu of your content.
Check out this Web page showing what your visitors see (or don't see) with Norton 2004 ad blocking:

The scary part is both you (i.e. the Web site owner) and your visitors didn't have a clue that this censorship was occurring... until now.
You might find it hard to believe that seemingly harmless content/ads served by Google and Commission Junction are blocked from display. That's why your visitor counts are increasing, yet your bank account balance is plummeting... Norton is literally erasing words, pictures, links, and any reference found in their secret blacklist.
For example, if any of your Web sites are named with the word "ads"... e.g.:
... Norton users will not see the link.
Or maybe you're displaying Google AdSense pay per click ads on your site... if a visitor has Norton 2004 installed, these ads will literally disappear (and show up as one big white space).
Turn bad news into golden opportunities
While this may sound like really bad news, I think of it as great news when you track down the problem and make a simple change.
First, you have to track down the content on your Web page that's flagged by the software's blacklist.
Have your Web designer scan this "banned" list (and check the content of each Web page... word for word) and change the words, graphics, or link references to sidestep these filters.
Here's the partial list of banned words, phrases, and links.
