Blog Marketing – Tips to gain new buyers with your blog

June 4th, 2010 by Guest Blogger | No Comments | Filed in Business, Weblogs

Every day I talk to people who are so excited about the internet and want to learn how to market online so they can have thousands of buyers flooding to their web site buying their products, and making money hand over fist. I always make it clear to these individuals that "it ain't going to happen like that". The art and science of marketing is acquired over a period of time and requires a lot of time and effort to make it all meld together and evolve into a profitable business.

If you're not committed to do whatever it takes to build your business for the long haul, then I can guarantee you that you'll never be a successful marketer. I'm not talking about becoming a millionaire over night, that idea isn't even realistic. Getting rich promoting affiliate sites is an unrealistic goal. Making money and getting rich selling e-books isn't going to cut it either. I know you're probably saying at this point, "then what are my options"?

You must put together a simple business plan that outlines where you are now and where you want to be at some point in the future. In this outline of your future, ask yourself some really personal questions. Is this something that I feel I can do mentally, physically and financially? If any of these three elements of your plan are not obtainable, then you need to figure out if you can change your situation in any way that will it make if possible to overcome any deficits in your mental, physical or financial challenges.

If you see there may be possibilities of making it work, then by all means…."go for it". If you can't make it work then forget this whole process and proceed in life knowing you can travel down the same road tomorrow as your traveling today. Nothing ventured….nothing gained.

Buying a domain is one of the first steps in your new online venture. Try to acquire a domain name with a keyword in the URL about your business you're going to be promoting. If you can't find a suitable domain name then you might choose to use your name as your primary domain URL and then use sub domains and sub directories when promoting various aspects of your business.

Get your own hosting account, e-mail accounts, ftp clients and a couple other basic programs so you can build your own system and maintain a control of what happens in your business venture. The old saying "you lose control you lose your rear" is 100% correct when marketing online.

Your next major hurdle is to find a mentor who is a professional marketer who will work with you in your learning process. Find someone who will listen to you and understands your personal needs and is willing to work with you one on one if necessary. Now comes the fun part which may be sometimes challenging for some but manageable with proper training.

We will discuss here only a few of the various methods of promoting your business opportunity however, you can read some of my other articles discussing various marketing techniques that will help you on your road to a successful marketing future. There are over 200 articles for your review at larrylmiller.com/SEM-SEO-Marketing-Articles so feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed and get the information delivered right to your desktop each time a new article is published.

I have had tremendous results with blogs and this aspect of marketing could be one of the easiest and most profitable ways to make money online if done correctly. Your blogs can be quite short in content or may be even longer versions if it fits your style. It doesn't make a difference regarding the length of the writing as much as what you present in the content of your writings. Marketing Articles is fast becoming the promotional choice for many of the big names in online marketing.

An article can contain enough information for multiple blogs. Either way you're getting the information about your product or service in front of online users. Marketing articles is a powerful way to promote any product online with a very simple low key approach. The internet is all about information and there are billions of searches on the internet every day. We have become a society that uses digital marketing in more and more of our choices every day. This is evident with the vast number of people that use online banking for all their financial needs.

By devoting some time to writing articles on a regular basis you can build social networks, advertising programs, newsletters and the possibilities are endless. The building of your business is like building a house. If you have a good foundation the winds can blow, the rain can come down in torrents and your house is still standing.

The same scenario is true with your business. You must build a good foundation for your business to survive all the ups and downs of changing markets, government regulations, employee obligations and more. This foundation can be built by providing good information to your user list on a regular basis. You are constantly building relationships in your business not only for your immediate financial needs but also for the future needs of you, your family and your business.

Some experts say "don't expect a return on your investment of time and money in a blog for at least 12 months or more." I personally have had good results with some of my blogs in just a few weeks. When blogging and writing articles you must look at the whole picture as a long term commitment and if you are fortunate to have above average success in a shorter time frame, that's a bonus, you obviously done something right.

If you don't know how to blog or write articles, then today is an excellent time to start this process. You learn to write …. by writing. Sharing information online is what it's all about and the easiest, most affordable way to do that is by writing.

Branding Blog – How to brand your blog marketing

May 25th, 2010 by RyanHealy | No Comments | Filed in Business, Weblogs

In a world of information overload, brands are even more important. They give us a decision shortcut — a way to side-step all the choices we’re faced with every day.

We don’t evaluate dozens of different brands every time we go to buy a certain type of product. We do our evaluation once, maybe twice, then we default to our “brand of choice” for months, years, and possibly decades.

This is the power of a brand.

In a way, we are brainwashed… or brandwashed… to make certain buying decisions.

Does this mean that brand-name “image” advertising is good advertising? No. In fact, most image advertising is terrible. Yet brands thrive in spite of their advertising. The question is Why?

If you look at all the brands people listed as brands they love, you’ll find that most of them deliver more than just a product or service; they deliver a positive memorable experience.

For instance, Apple, Amazon, and Starbucks were all listed more than once. And all of them deliver anexperience.

  • Apple offers a fun, low-stress environment where you can demo all their computers and ask as many questions as you want before you buy. (Of course, they have an amazing product, which doesn’t hurt either.)
  • Amazon offers a fast, convenient buying experience that is customized to you and your buying habits. Ordering is easy, prices are hard to beat, and Amazon’s personalized recommendations often lead you to new musicians and authors you would have otherwise never discovered.
  • Starbucks offers more than just coffee — they offer a pleasant environment where you can relax, read, study, visit with friends, or check your email. When you buy a cup of Starbucks coffee, you’re also buyingambiance.

Starbucks also showed up on my list. That’s because my wife and I used to go on dates at Starbucks. It was our favorite hang-out both before and after we got married. We’ve been going to the same Starbucks/Barnes & Noble combo for more than a decade now. That’s a lot of talks and a lot of memories.

So each time I support Starbucks, I’m buying not just the coffee (which I happen to like), I’m also buying my memories and all those good feelings I’ve associated with Starbucks.

In my view, people love brands that:

  • Create a (positive) memorable experience.
  • Stand for a certain value system or world view.

I believe a “memorable experience” is created primarily through one of two ways.

First, there is the experience that is designed to be extraordinary from the get-go. Take Disney, for instance. There’s nothing like it. And you’ll always remember the time you spend there because of that.

Second, there is the unexpected experience, usually in the form of outstanding customer service. This is why USAA showed up on my list. They’ve repeatedly given me excellent customer service. I haven’t experienced that anywhere else. So USAA stands out big time.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting because people hate brands for the same reasons they love them. We hate brands that…

  • Create a (negative) memorable experience.
  • Stand for a certain value system or world view.

Two examples…

Example #1: I hate Borders because I’ve repeatedly had bad experiences at their stores. And not just at one location — multiple locations. I was so upset by how I was treated at these stores that I literally “black-listed” them for years and refused to even step foot in one. Even today, years later, I will go out of my way to support their competitors.

Example #2: I strongly dislike Wal-Mart because of the values that run the company. Their approach to business is to save money at any cost — costs to the environment, costs to third-world countries, even costs to taxpayers. This is not what I believe in, so I intentionally avoid shopping at Wal-Mart.

So you see, we love and hate brands for essentially the same reasons. Interesting, eh?

Glenn Livingston dropped by and left an insightful comment. I’ve reproduced some of it here:

When I was a Fortune 500 consultant, we were involved with an advertising agency which wanted to promote the belief that people could define themselves by the three brands they absolutely couldn’t live without. They’d ask people what a typical day would be without those three brands. [...] Is your brand one of the 3 your customers couldn’t live without?

What a powerful question that is!

This is not to say we can all create “indespinsable brands” — but it’s certainly something worth striving for.

Remember: The more choices there are, the more important your brand is. Because a brand is how we shortcut the decision-making process. So, believe it or not, having a strong brand is important even for information marketers.

Case in point: How many blogs do you read on a daily/weekly/monthly basis?

I bet your daily blog list is short indeed. Maybe 3-7 blogs, max.

Taking a cue from Glenn, a good question to ask if you’re an information marketer might be, “Do I write one of the three blogs my customers couldn’t live without?”

Keep this in mind whenever you write blog posts… create information products… or do anything that defines (or refines) your brand.

Wordpress Plugins – My top 9 plugins revealed

February 8th, 2010 by markus | No Comments | Filed in Business, Corporate Blogging, Weblogs

One of the advantages of blogging with WordPress blogging software is the option of using WordPress plugins.

These plugins give us additional functionality within the Wordpress software – giving us the ability to put our blogging on autopilot.

Here's my recommended… must-have list of nine WordPress plugins I use myself to enhance my WordPress blog (listed in order of importance):

All in One SEO Pack – This is my all-time favorite WordPress plugin.

It adds automatic search engine optimization options into each WordPress post… ultimately attracting visitors to your blog almost automatically.

I say almost automatically because there are three empty fields to fill out for each post you make:

- Webpage title

- Meta description

- Meta keywords

When you fill out these the right way, you're going to get a lot more clicks from search engine results to your blog post.

WP Auto Tagger – -This plugin automatically scans your blog post and looks for popular keyword phrases. It takes these phrases and creates a backup search engine friendly duplicate page.

Don't fret about the technical details of this plugin. All I can say is that after checking my blog stats, a large majority of my search engine referrals come as a result of WP Auto Tagger creating these tags.

Google XML Sitemaps – This amazing WordPress plugin generates a special Google-friendly sitemap every night helping you get your blog post noticed by search engine spiders and bots.

Google XML Sitemaps creates a file called "sitemap.xml" — an A to Z index listing the details of each blog post. For example, mine is found at:

http://www.marketing-ideas.org/sitemap.xml

Submit your sitemap to Google, Yahoo! and Bing and watch your blog content show up faster in these popular search engines.

AdSense Now! – If you're not making money with your blog, you should.

And Google AdSense is the fastest and easiest way to make money I've ever tested (when you put my AdSense secrets into action, that is).

The AdSense Now! plugin makes it a breeze to add Google AdSense revenue sharing into your blog… just install the plugin, copy and paste your AdSense code and configure the positioning settings to display your ads between your blog post's headline and content:

Top: Center

Middle: Suppress

Bottom: Suppress

WordPress Mobile Pack – Let's face it, you're missing out on a HUGE audience if you don't tweak your WordPress blog to fit on a mobile device.

It's estimated that 34 million people can't read your blog — and that's just the number of iPhones sold in the fourth quarter of 2009.

It's nearly impossible to see your blog on any mobile phone… forcing your mobile visitors to scroll left to right… squinting to read your super-small fonts. Most mobile users are going to flee your blog if it's hard to see.

It doesn't have to be this way…

… The WordPress Mobile Pack plugin "mobilizes" your WordPress blog… automatically. The plugin senses a mobile device and automatically switches to a leaner mobile display.

Even better, there's a free option to have your blog listed on mpexo, a directory of mobile-friendly blogs — opening up a new audience to view your new easy-on-the-eyes site.

W3 Total Cache – WordPress is great, but it's notoriously slow loading. It takes many many seconds just to start to see your blog content display.

In today's world, speed is everything. If your site doesn't display in a second or so, your visitor clicks to your competitor.

The good news is this WordPress plugin DRAMATICALLY improves the speed of your blog by adding page and database caching which displays your blog faster.

wpuntexturize – By default, most WordPress themes add "graphic embellishments" to your blog posts… that includes those sometimes fancy curly quotes.

You've probably seen the problem frequently… you go to read a blog post and it's riddled with question marks and other weird characters. This happens when a blogger copies and pastes content from another blogger with curly quotes.

This simple plugin prevents WordPress from making HTML entity code substitutions of single and double quotation marks with their curly alternatives.

TweetMeme Retweet Button – This WordPress plugin displays the popular TweetMeme badge next to each blog post you submit… making it easy for your visitors to post your content to their Twitter account.

But the best part is a snippet of your blog posts gets automatically submitted to TweetMeme's followers — giving you an instant and automatic SEO benefit at the same time.

Broken Link Checker – Search engine robots and spiders don't like it when your hyperlinks to recommended sources are outdated and don't work.

This WordPress plugin checks your posts (while you're sleeping) for broken links and missing images. If there's an issue, you're notified in your WordPress dashboard just after logging in.

Final tip - There's no reason to struggle on your own and figure out the best WordPress plugins to use. If you're ready to put the power of blogging into action, you might want to grab these additional corporate blogging tips, techniques and methods.

Article Directory – Make money with your own directory site

January 28th, 2010 by markus | No Comments | Filed in Business, Corporate Blogging, Weblogs

Watch this video:

One of the most profitable businesses to operate is an article directory.

Here's how it works – you setup a blog and allow guest bloggers to send you articles. Once approved, the articles go live and show up on your blog. Each article is surrounded by paid advertising (e.g. Google AdSense)… and when your visitor clicks on these ads, you get paid cash (whether they buy something or not).

This is a brilliant business because the profit margins are off the charts. The only real cost is time… time to approve each article draft. And it's a never-ending parade of profit because every word doubles as search engine bait… delivering visitors to your site day by day — and never ends.

I run a blog directory. And I bet you've never heard of it (until now).

I took a dormant website called Weight Loss Chats (originally a discussion site) and converted it into a niche blog directory.

Unlike most blog directories, I don't accept author submissions. I don't need to (I explain why below). That's WAY too time consuming. Plus most article writers put out worthless junk.

Instead, I borrow content from a competing blog directory (ArticlesBase) and let them do all of the hard work for me… screening authors, approving well-written content and even formatting each article perfectly to insert into my blog directory.

This is 100% ethical and 100% legal. In fact, this article directory actually encourages anyone with a blog to steal their author's content and clone it to a blog. But here's the best part…. the entire process is automated. Every morning, a fresh batch of precisely-targeted content awaits my approval. I simply preview each post and click the [Publish] submit button in my WordPress Dashboard. That's it! It couldn't be easier.

So what's my secret to complete blogging automation?

It's a nifty premium autoblogger WordPress plugin. I bought it when it was just $47, and it's the best under-$50 purchase I've ever made. Every day, it grabs precisely-related blog content from an article directory and post it to my blog.

By default, this autoblogger software posts each article live on my blog, but gives you the option to wait for your approval — I choose this option as I'm a bit of a control freak. Each articles takes me less than 45 seconds to scan.

Now there's no reason for you to struggle with making money online. If you're ready to put your internet marketing on autopilot now, you might want to grab these internet marketing secrets, tips, techniques and methods.

Making Money With Blog – How to make money blogging

January 13th, 2010 by markus | No Comments | Filed in Business, Corporate Blogging, Weblogs

This year, I'm going to bank more than $200,000.00 working 15 to 25 minutes a day by corporate blogging… yes, making money blogging is a reality.

I don't say this to brag, but merely to get you excited about the possibilities of how to make money blogging in less time than it takes to eat lunch today.

The bad news is most people won't make money blogging. In fact, most won't make a single penny and are going to give up too soon. Most bloggers post a few blog posts and then quit. That's a shame because if they give it some more time, making money blogging is SO exciting.

Here are the reasons why you're not making money with blogs:

Don't have the time – Writing for your blog seems time consuming at first, but it doesn't have to be.

I invest 15 to 25 minutes a day blogging. And I write my own, fresh 100% original content.

Sometimes I can crank out a great blog post in just minutes. Other times I get stuck and get distracted. When I suffer brain freeze, I take a break and return later to finish my blog entry.

The key to writing quickly is to:

- Not worrying about typos or poor grammar on the first draft…

- Use Google's FREE amazing keyword tool to hunt down blogging ideas…

- Eliminate all distractions…

- Write like you talk…

- Pretend you're writing to an 8-year old (i.e. write short sentences)…

- Use time tested copywriting formulas (like the Hagelian Dialectic)…

- Reward yourself after you've finished blogging

Analysis Paralysis – Perfectionism is the blog writer's achilles' heel.

Don't worry about crafting the perfect blog. Your English teacher isn't reading your blog, and you can always fix typos and grammatical mistakes in the future.

In fact, I actually make more money when I have the occasional spelling mistake. It's true. That's because a lot of people use search engines to find my blog content… and those same people can't spell when searching Google. And when their search query matches my typo in my blog post, I have an excellent chance of getting that same searcher to my blog.

Brainwashed – For some odd reason, fellow bloggers convince us that it's "selling out" to write a blog for profit. Well guess what…  I "sold out" a long time ago. And it's thanks to making money with blogs that affords me the toys my family enjoys.

Writing for your blog is no different than writing for Readers Digest or writing a book. These authors get paid and so should you.

Unclear about how to make money blogging – I suffered this problem for years. I didn't know how to monetize my writing. I tried everything from affiliate programs to selling my own stuff to placing Google AdSense classified ads next my blog posts. Nothing worked. It was depressing. And I stopped blogging for years because of it. I listened to all of the wrong "gurus." And my bank account suffered.

But today, I figured out how to turn my content into a virtual online tollbooth. Yes, affiliate programs and selling my own stuff and even Google AdSense are now paying off. The key is to know where to place these money-making links near your blog content.

In the past, I made all of the typical blogger mistakes. But today, every blog post I write ultimately makes me money. That means every time I write, I ultimately get paid — for life.

Don't know how to attract blog visitors – You can blog about sports scores and predict tomorrow's lottery numbers, but if no one knows about your blog, you're going to be wasting your time. And you're ultimately going to be frustrated and give up.

That's why the moment I press the "Publish" button and submit my blog post, my promotion efforts go into full swing.

I use social media tools and sites like Digg,Twitter and Reddit to announce my new blog posts. I submit my RSS feed to tons of RSS directories. I copy my content and publish it to article marketing directories like EzineArticles and ArticlesBase. And if I have the extra time, I create a quick 2- to 3-minute video and post it to YouTube for additional promotional activity (including a link back to my blog post).

It takes me less than 25 minutes to promote my blog entry. That's it. And the results are almost instant and amazing. In fact it's not unusual to have my blog post show up in Google just hours after publishing my blog entry. Sometimes I get featured in just minutes.

And the best part is this 25-minute investment pays off for life.

Writer's block – By far, the most common reason bloggers fail to earn money blogging is because they hate to write.

I hear you and completely understand your disdain for writing. I HATED to even read most of my school-age life. I never read a single book until age 19. I cheated my way through high school… got 940 on my SATs (yes, that's combined). And I flunked out of college to the displeasure of my parents.

But today, I'm a writing machine. I LOVE to write. And my secret is simple… I follow one of many copywriting formulas. These formulas have been used throughout the ages to hook in the reader and get them excited to take an action (like subscribe to a newsletter, click on a link or buy something).

Get this… you can even borrow someone else's writing and make money at the same time. It's true. Article directories offer this FREE. Just copy the article in your niche, paste it into your blog… press the "Publish" submit button and watch your bank account grow (over time).

Final tip – There's no reason for you to struggle with making money blogging. If you're ready to earn money blogging right now, you might want to grab these corporate blogging tips, techniques and methods.

Benefits of Blogging – The truth about blogging for business

January 11th, 2010 by markus | No Comments | Filed in Business, Corporate Blogging, Weblogs

The benefits of corporate blogging are numerous.

Blogging has been around since 1993, but really became mainstream in 1999. And the benefits of blogging have remained virtually unchanged since then.

I LOVE blogging and know you will too. Here's why:

FREE lead generation

For me, putting my lead generation efforts on autopilot is the single biggest benefit of blogging.

Every word I write on my blog has the ability to show up in a search result at the most popular search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing…. in just days (maybe even in a few hours). And when a Google customer searches for words that also appear on my blog, I have an excellent chance to have that same visitor swing by my site FREE.

While my competitors are paying 50 cents… a dollar… or even up to $50.00 for each lead, getting the same precisely-qualified visitor to my blog at no charge is quite exciting.

That's an amazing concept worth repeating…

… Every word you display on your blog is likely to show up in a Google search in hours (or even mere minutes). And when a Google search matches the words on your blog, there's an excellent chance to have that same searcher click to read your entire blog post.

That means every time you write on your blog, you're almost instantly scaling out your lead generation efforts. How awesome is that?

Gain international fame

Blogging positions yourself as the expert on the topic you choose to write about. It's true. The fact that you've put your thoughts in writing is much more powerful than saying it out loud. And the more you blog, the more your "fans" (i.e. repeat visitors) are going to adore you.

Become an instant free agent

Another one of the many benefits of corporate blogging is it gives you instant "free agent" status. Just like a star football player.

When you name your blog with your actual name in the blog title, you retain ownership no matter where you blog from (or for whom you work for).

In today's economic climate, odds are you're not going to retire at the same company you're currently employed with. But the good news is blogging vritually bulletproofs your job security. If your boss threatens to fire you or let you go, just remind him/her that the competition would LOVE to have you continue blogging for the away team.

Blogging is easy

And blogging today is easier than ever. The latest version of WordPress sets you back about 30 minutes to install. After that, you're done. Time to blog. Internet marketing couldn't be easier.

WordPress' blogging software offers us hundreds (maybe even thousands) of "plugins"… almost always free software enhancements that adds additional features to your blog.

I currently use 8 plugins. These plugins help speed up the load time of my blog pages… display the best-matching corporate sponsors next to each blog post… and even handle the SEO work automatically.

The bottom line is no aspect of internet marketing delivers as many benefits as corporate blogging… and the best part is it's all entirely FREE.

And believe it or not, adding content is the easy part. Really. There's no reason for you to struggle with writing your blog. If you're ready to become a corporate blogger right now, you might want to grab these corporate blogging tips, techniques and methods.

Blog Comments – Does it really pay to turn on blog commenting

January 8th, 2010 by markus | No Comments | Filed in Business, Uncategorized, Weblogs

Most blog comment software allows you to turn on or off blog comments.

And if you're blogging to grow your business, you might be asking yourself this… does allowing blog comments on your blog add more zeros to your bank account?

I don't think it does and I outline my reasons why below.

As a thinking-out-of-the-box internet marketer and host of a weekly business building talkcast, I THRIVE on getting feedback about what I say or write. My inbox gets a steady parade of new marketing ideas, critiques and suggestions on how to help with my broadcast. And I love it. Life without feedback would be a very lonely life.

But after analyzing the pros and cons of blog commenting, I've decided to block comments on my blog… here's why:

Spam

Most comments come from spammers… either flat out spam, or spam thinly disguised as a legitimate comment. Either way, the vast majority of blog comments are worthless to my visitor.

With the prevelance of blog comment spam, you're going to need to install spam prevention software. And that's great. Programs like Aksimet are great at stopping blog comment spam. But some spam falls through the cracks and you're going to invest time determining if the comment is legit or not.

Time

Keep in mind that every 10 minutes you spend playing cop with your blog comments is 10 precious minutes you lose writing for your blog. And writing content for your blog is going to attract a heck of a lot more visitors to your website than moderating your blog comments.

Dilution of SEO

While it's true that blog comments give your post an added chance of getting featured in the search engines, I find most people who comment instead dilute the search engine optimization of my blog posts.

False Accusation

This is a tough one for me. Because I HATE censorship and love to comment on other blogs to warn others of a scam. However, competitors have been known to make up falsehoods out of thin air. And the last thing I need is a jealous competitor posting false accusations on my blog (and dealing with replying to it).

Legal Issues

Yes, there are laws to protect website owners of malicious and slanderous comments on a blog, but who wants to be hassled with a lawsuit? I don't. That's another HUGE and massive waste of precious time… time I'd rather use to grow my business.

Setup to Fail

Now I love to help people. It's my achilles heel at times.  And when someone asks me a question, I'm thrilled to reply with an answer. I've never once backed down from the toughest questions.

With that said, allowing blog comments is a surefire way to suck a ton of time away from you — giving you less time to work on your marketing.

In most cases, answers to questions require large blocks of time (no matter how hard you try to keep it brief).

But here's the biggest issue for me… the followup comment. More often than not, answering one question opens the floodgates to multiple followup questions. On one hand, you don't want to be perceived as a jerk and ignore the followup question, but it's unfair to your business to reply over and over again.

It's for these reasons I'm confident that I'm making the right choice in closing blog commenting. I'd ask you to weigh in and give me your thoughts on the pros and cons of blog comments, but obviously my comments are closed. How ironic is that?

With that said, I do offer a direct way for people to contact me (via email and support ticket). I find this significantly slashes the time I choose to invest helping readers of my blog.

There's no reason for you to struggle with whether or not to have blog comments. If you're ready to get serious about using your blog to make more money, you might want to grab these internet marketing secrets, tips, techniques and methods.
